Mission
CoolingMan's mission is to build bridges between the climate
science and art communities, and inspire direct climate
action by groups and individuals.
Activities
CoolingMan activities include:
Offsetting GHG Emissions from Art and Events
CoolingMan estimates greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from
cultural events and helps obtain a greater
amount of GHG offsets to more than neutralize
these emissions. Since offsets exceed emissions, events
become 'carbon negative, climate positive,' and
participants extend the gift economy by 'cooling it
forward.'
Supporting Climate-Related Artworks
CoolingMan works to bring the creative and persuasive
powers of the artistic community to bear on the
challenge of climate change by providing ideas and
funding for artworks exploring climate related themes.
Organization
The CoolingMan Project was founded in 2005 by a group of
environmental consultants in San Francisco. The CoolingTeam
of volunteers manage the organization and its projects.
